Video Poker Winning Hands

In video poker there are several different ways to win a hand. From the smallest of hands to the best hand you can get, they all vary in payouts but they are all winning hands.

To start off with the lowest possible winning hand there is what you call the High Card; with means that in some cases the winning of a hand may be decided by the value of a single card. The highest card in video poker is the Ace, if more than on player holds an Ace then the second card would determine the winner, then the third and so on.

Next comes One Pair, this is a hand that is made up of two cards that match in value. For example if a player has two tens, that is one pair.

At the next level comes Two Pair, which is when a player holds two sets of two cards that match in value.

The next hand up is called Three of a Kind (also known as Trips) this is because of the use of the card three times. Three of a Kind is made up of any three cards, which are the same in value, but not the same suit. If a player has three aces this is the highest set of trips.

Next up is the Straight, which is made up of all five cards which are in a line of numeric value, such as four-five-six-seven-eight. The cards that make a straight do not have to be the same suit. The highest straight possible is Ace-King-Queen-Jack-Ten, this hand will beat all other straights.

A Flush is the next highest hand, and a Flush is made up of any five cards that are the same suit. The cards in a Flush hand to not have to be in numerical order, they only have to be the same suit.

After the Flush is a Full House (also known as the boat, or a full boat), this hand consists of one three of a kind and one pair. When you have a full house you always list the three of a kind over the one pair, if you had three nine's and two threes you would say nine's over threes. The highest possible hand for a full house would be three aces with a pair of kings.

Continuing up the scale would be Four of a Kind, which simply is four cards that match in value. The best Four of a Kind hand would be four aces and four two's would be the lowest.

Next is a Straight Flush, this is the second highest hand you can get in video poker. It is very similar to the highest hand but in this hand you can use any five cards that are the same suit and that are in a row. For example the five of spades through the nine of spades would be a Straight Flush.

Finally the highest winning hand possible for (natural) video poker is the Royal Straight Flush, in this hand you do not use any wild cards and it is made up of the Ace-King-Queen-Jack-Ten of the same suit. As you can see there are many ways to win at video poker so go out and have a good time winning.
